With the
race season quickly approaching, raceUSRA reviewers are focusing
their efforts on tools and accessories that will assist you
in getting your ride ready. Preparation before any race is
critical in making it a successful event. As the old saying
goes, "Those who fail to prepare, prepare to fail".
Applied
Racing has a few items that we would highly recommned
for those who work on their own bikes.

Cable
Luber - This item fits easily into your tool box and I would
guess that it is one of the most overlooked maintenance items
on your bike. It hooks onto one end of the cable and makes it
so you are able to squirt cable lube through the cable. It is
surprising what a little lube will do to reduce the strength
required to pull in the clutch and keep the throttle moving
smooth. |

4
Socket T-Handle Wrench - When you are taking your bike apart
there are about four different sizes of sockets that you need
to pull all the plastic off. This comes with all four sockets
and a T-handle so you can spin nuts and bolts on and off with
ease. The sockets are not welded into place so you are not working
with a short side when a longer reach is needed. |

Rubber
Coated Tire Iron - The last AMA Super Cross race I attended
here in Salt Lake City, I spent some quality time watching
the Dunlop Tire Crew change tire after tire, wondering how
they make it look so effertless. Of course I was having flash
backs of pinched tubes, tire irons flying across the garage,
and dreams of learning a second language due to the fact there
are not enought cuss words in the English to change a tire.
The guy
working at the Dunlop Tire Station said having the right two
tire irons is key to changing a tire. I have searched high
and low and this is the closest thing I have found to what
he was using. Long enough to get leverage, but short enough
to fit under your sprocket or disc for support. The rubber
coating lets you stick it under the sprocket or disc without
causing any damage. Work slowly around the tire and you will
have success.

Suspension
Saver - Until I started riding 2-6 times a month, I never
realized how important it was to take care of your suspension.
The suspension saver is placed between your front wheel and
fender to limit stress on your fork seals during transporting.
There are two tabs that hold it in place while you tie your
bike down. The suspension saver keeps your bike at almost full
height when tied down, limiting the stress on the fork seals.
If the Suspension Saver prevents one fork seal leak you are
money ahead. |
